MK Badshahs v Olney Town Cricket Club Sunday Casuals/League on Sun 16 May 2010 at 2pm
Olney Town Cricket Club Won by 10 wickets
Match report
Following on from last weeks nail biter, normal service was resumed as Olney continued their defence of last years title with ease. On one of those odd days where the square was longer than the outfield skip Gratters won the toss (2/4) and inserted the oppo.
MKB were clearly not going to hang around and went after the attack from the first ball scoring 5 an over from the off until the first change. With opening bowlers Swingler and Gallyot working hard but picking up only the one wicket, messrs C Berrill and Darkins were bought on and the wickets began to tumble due to a combination of great bowling but stunning fielding, NINE catches being held out of 10 given (so good that it doesn't seem fair to mention that CHRISTIAN SMAIL the KEEPER) buggered up the perfect 10 by putting a regulation effort down so I won't. The young Smail then went on to repay the shame he bought on his club by keeping perfectly for the rest of the match.
Annie Oakley held on to 3 catches in his specialist mid-on position looking positively professional with his £85,000 custom built gumshield looking after his new teeth lost last year in battle at Wicken(also available for £1.99 at JJB Sports.
Paul Winter snaffled a couple of beauts including one that looked to be sailing over his head only for him to put in a Nadia Comenchi http://im.rediff.com/sports/2004/aug/12nadia.jpg type backward leap to pluck it from the air, not easy to do when you consider that when Paul steps on the scales it shouts one at a time please, though in the new regime of raised standards skipper Gratland imposed an immediate fine for unneccessary rolling Ronaldo stylee along the ground! The shy retiring Gallyot also taking a couple of lofty loopers to complete one of the best fielding performances since the war. No-one could remember a single fumble in the field (well apart from the 10 minutes Jewson spent with his hands in his pockets for an unnaturally long period !!) .
But the piece de resistance came with MK Badshahs on 117 for 7, Callum Berrill bounded in to take his first professional hat-trick, the last of which saw the stump making an undignified flight towards the boundary. MK Badshahs dismissed for 117.
After a good tea delayed by the fact the Olney halfwits, sorry Casuals, had managed to lock themselves in the changing room with only a flat bottle of lucozade and a week old gingsters pie between them, Olney took to the field confident but not cocky.
16 overs later it was all over despite Berrill whining about not being able to middle anything which probably explains why he only managed 10 4's and 2 6's on his way to 67no. Whilst at the other end newish Darkins (upgraded from 'new') scored a stylish 46no, though sadly this served to highlight a developing problem - the problem of JUG AVOIDANCE !!!
After a 97no the previous week thus avoiding the purchase of a jug of ale for his new collegues he again fell just 4 short of triggering a jug purchase mandatory requirement. I mean what is going on here, we give him civilisation and myxomatosis so surely the least he can do is buy us poms a bleedin beer !! The situation is under surveillance!
Olney finishing on 119-0 and a maximum 28 points.
OTCC retired to the Swan Inn in Fenny Stratford to watch England completely embarrass the enemy in the 20/20 world cup final. (Note for the disciplinary committee, Darkins was supporting the aussies !!!!)
We now get a 2 week break from the league pressure stuff and have 2 friendlies before resuming against what is likely to be tougher league fixtures - though as it stands we are back on top of the league ! Skipper Gratland has booked a 3 day break in the Carribean for the team to re-invigorate the troops before battle resumes!
STOP PRESS - Carribean tour cancelled due to ash cloud!
