Olney Town Cricket Club Sunday Casuals/League v Stoke Bruerne on Sun 27 Jun 2010 at 2pm
Olney Town Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets
Match report
The Sunday XI continued their defence of their title in emphatic fashion by skittling Stoke Bruerne for just 59 runs! Without the 'man' in the 'one man team' the Olney bowling pups despatched their opposition with aplomb !
To howls of protest but based on the side he had, skipper Gratters after winning the toss (3/7) decided to ignore the 110 degree heat and bowl! With faces as long as Neville Thompsons list of Hollywood contacts, the troops trudged out melting into the heat with the gayer members fully sun creamed up !
Then ........Knowles and Rice exploded into action - pinning the SB batsmen down with pin precise bowling that even their illustrious skipper would have struggled to get off the square, they wiped out half the opposition in 14 overs reducing Stoke Bruerne to 26-6 off 14 overs. Rice 7-2-14-2 and Knowles 7-2-16-3
With the pups having completed their task with honours, they were replaced with spin wizard Darkins and in-form paceman Hurley who is starting to specialise in killing the lower order with no mercy, the job was complete. Hurley finishing with remarkable figures of 5-4-3-3 !!!
Special mention to young Smail behind the stumps who snaffled up 3 catches (5 in 2 weeks) like he had hands the size of buckets !! It can only be a matter of time before the ECB come sniffing. With only the one misfield by someone whos name escapes me the job was done and in for an early tea!
Following the England debacle, the OTCC opening partnership of Harrison and Jewson opened the innings and to inswinging accurate bowling from the SB openers, broke the back of the small target reaching 21 before DH got cut in half for 9, rapidly followed by Jewson done by a similar ball the other end for 8. International Darkins (sun creamed up I'm sad to report), made short work getting over the line with an unbeaten 25 in quick time but I feel the readers should be aware of the worst full toss shot in the 109 year history of the club, think of a full toss, think of your eyes lighting up as you visualise the 4 or 6, then think of SLAPPING the ball to cover 10 metres away only for the fielder to spill it ! (Sorry Rory Vettori but the world needs to know about that shot!). Thankfully a quick scan of the ground failed to find any kiwi selectors. With under pressure Annie Oakley groping outside the off stump for edges (6no) the job was done and another 8 wicket victory.
Clinical stuff from the OTCC boys !
