Match report Olney Town vs Milton Keynes Cricket Club

15th May 2010 at the OTCG

Weather - Cloudy but warm with slight breeze from the bowling club direction

Pitch - Dry on top, green, low bounce

Skipper Keeping loses the toss and was asked to bat (which was what he was going to do anyway).

The opening pair of Hallum and Keeping had a steady start scoring at approximately 3 per over for the first few overs. The MK opening bowling attack was tidy and accurate with very few scoring opportunities available, in fact the openers concluded that it was the best bowling they had faced this season and along with a slow irregular bouncing pitch, some excellent fielding and a slowish outfield, they struggled to make any inroads in to the attack.

With the score 34, Olney lost Keeping following by Brown in the same over to the left arm medium pace of Fairbrother. Hallum was joined at the crease by the skipper but unfortunately the pair weren't together for long as Hallum tried to pull a fullish delivery and was bowled. This brought Hacking to the crease and both he and Keeping played patiently building the score until Hacking was bowled. The innings ticked along with the home team struggling to score at any great rate losing wickets steadily along the way. If it wasn't for the wagging tail of DJ (I can punch the ball straight back past the bowler for 4) 24 not out, Swingler 9 and Smith 8, along with the highest scorer extras (26) it looked like the home side weren't going to post anything like a competitive score. The inning closed on 139 all out giving MK 3 extra overs to chase down the total.

The home side went out to field confidently and had an excellent start reducing MK to 34 for 3 with some accurate tight and aggressive bowling.
However some excellent patient batting from the away side's skipper Chauhan who put on a 7th wicket stand of 59 with Ebrahim steadied the innings and put the opposition in an excellent position. Olney didn't give up and thanks to Brownie putting the opposition off by tripping over his own feet they continued taking wickets falling just 2 short. At tea, Olney felt they were 20 runs short and so it proved to be. It was a close contest with 2 evenly matched teams played in a good spirit, Milton Keynes finished 141 for 8 with 10 overs left, the pick of the Olney bowling being New Boots Smith with figures of 9.5/1/31/3 and Stewpot Keeping 10/3/25/2
