Match report
Another excellent result which will take us into the last game with our future in our own hands. Against a weak Stewkley side it was important to do things well and get the result we needed. What followed was another all round excellent team performance, confirming the spirit in which we are currently playing.
Having lost the toss and being asked to bat it was important to put a good score on the board, which is exactly what we did. Current leading scorer Iain Keeping and the returning Mark Hallam put on another 50 plus opening stand before Hallam gave a catch trying to repeat a 6 from the previous over. Keeping remained firm before being caught in the cordon for a well made 26. Griffin and Hacking were undone by the wicket with 2 shooters before the stand of the game between the two luckiest batsmen on display took place, Stuart keeping giving a chance off his third ball when on 2 went on to make a very streaky but quick 63 from 44 balls before being run out by his partner Bates. Bates whilst riding his luck himslef played some delectable cover drives and included a big six over long on in his unbeaten 49 (note... the skipper had no knowledge of his closeness to his first club half century when declaring and bore no hard feeling regarding the run out). Brown came in sacrificed his wicket in the search for quick runs to enable the declaration, and with 6 overs remaining we declared on 232-8.
We started excellently in the field removing both openers in the first two overs, Keeping and especially Robo-leg Buster bowling good lines and upsetting the furniture. Wickets fell at a steady pace with Griff and DJ also getting in on the act with 3 wickets a piece from little off the bat, the latter finishing with 3-5 of 8 overs. We took the last wicket in significant gloom and given the forecast we were grateful to get 30 points and a full game in.
A quick special mention to Stewkley's 12th player, Mr B Eyes who mysteriously top scored with 31! Well done Hack, however he did produce a sublime bit of keeping to get rid of the dangerous Drakes, so we will let him off!
So on to next week where a win will guarantee promotion and a good few beers to follow!
