Match report
Things started badly when Guts was out for a golden duck for the third ball of the innings. Leaving him plenty of time to muse on having won the toss. Chapster (8) followed not long after to a similar ball – bringing Jon Hurley (20) and Jewson (20) together for the second time in consecutive games to put on a partnership of 38 before Baz (11) and Jon carried us to 70-4. This could be considered a bit of a turning point... As we were then bowled out for 101 with James’(7 no) promotion to No. 9 fruitless as he watched a stream of partners come and go – including No 11 Joe Rice getting caught off the back of his bat from what would have been a wide... I’m sure it was amusing.
After tea (no stars to report), Olney took to the field and started well with Oli Knowles bowling 5-3-11-1 on what was a lively wicket being the stand-out performance again. Unfortunately New City’s batsmen showed more ability and mettle than a lot of sides recently and put our bowlers to sword (see the stats for the gruesome details).
What was a real shame was our fielding display – which was down on where we normally are with too many catches going down. Fines were dished out accordingly – with Guts going for the full £3, Jewson continuing his £3 standing order and Yours Truly being fined whilst scoring for asking whether the wides had come off the bat.
Whilst the contribution no doubt swelled the end-of-season drinking coffers... We need to get back to winning ways quickly if we are to realise promotion – slipping off the top of the table for the first time this season. We’ll have to be on our game in two weeks time when we welcome MK Village to our shores. At least it will be on our track.
