Olney Town Cricket Club Won by 4 wkts

Match report In a stupendous game which will be talked about for many years to come, Olney 1sts chased down a huge 257-4 to defeaat MK Village in a crucial relegation dogfight.

Having won the toss and electing to field on a very good batting track in very high heat the visiting side started off as warm favourites. However clearly their enthusiasm peaked a tad early.

After a slightly shaky start, a brilliant undefeated knock of 141 by Nadar gave MK Village a score they would have been praying for prior to the game. Despite 2 excellent catches from the prodigy Smail and supported by his middle order a huge 257-4 was set for the home side to chase with surely a draw the best they could hope for. Though if some pillock in the stands had not decided to blast out his Ipod over the ground whilst the home side were trying to bowl they may have been able to concentrate on getting a few more !

The home side trooped off, mentally exhausted, battered by the heat but ultimately to give it their all.

Solid batting from the off was required and was exactly what was delivered. Chris Soul put his last couple of innings behind him to smash a fine 71 ably supported by Mike Browns 26 as Olney got off to a flyer. Brown then caught, bought wee Gallyot to the crease fresh from his first decent innings the previous week and clearly up on confidence plundered his way to a match changing 69 and Olney were on the way but were always a couple of maidens away from being too far behind the huge run rate required so concentration was key.

With only 7 overs to go the run rate was still the wrong side of 8 an over. Captains innings required and captains innings delivered. S Keeping smashing 45 off of not many balls to bring the winning line over the horizon and into full view. With 6 still needed off of the last over Paul Smith took responsibility with a fine 4 over the bowlers head off of the second ball of the over to tie the game before skying one into the covers to raptuous applause as they scurried through for the winning single. A superb result.

Footnote: Only downside of the day is the sad news that PC Wrong un and Casuals skipper Simon Gratland are up before the OTCC Standards and Decency Commitee for unbecoming behaviour from the cheap seats in the form of 'Drop It' bellowed from the PC as a visiting fielder took a catch and one loud followed by several muffled cries (having been bollocked) of 'Hit the Rubbish' from Gratland and inciting the crowd into 'You're not singing any more' !! Most unbecoming !

Olney 1sts are back !!
