North Crawley CC 1st XI v Olney Town Cricket Club Olney Town CC 1st XI on Sat 16 Aug 2008 at 1:30pm
Olney Town Cricket Club Lost by 6 wkts

Match report Olney went into Saturdays game knowing that sitting 2nd from bottom in the
table that they needed to try and force a result in their favour. However
it was not to be as despite the excellent batting contribution of Mark
Hallum recording his maiden century for the club we slumped to yet another
defeat.
Having lost the toss I was happy to be batting, the strip looked in
excellent condition given the recent bad weather, and the decision by
Crawley to put us in also gave us the opportunity of gaining maximum
points.
The innings didnt start to well the team losing opener Soul to a slightly
dubious LBW, These things happen in the game and you have to feel sorry for
Souly who for some reason has been on the end of most of these throughout
the season. Gallyot came in and added his usual array of attacking shots
before departing to the pace of Gillam for 28. Keeping came in and resumed
his duel from the previous game with Bryce, however this time he decided
to give him the easiest of return catches falling for 8. Cadigan and Gibson
both followed each making 1 before Beefy departed for 2. At the other end
however Hallum was starting to inject pace to his innings, having taken 113
balls for his 50 he accellerated and scored his other 64 runs of just 28
balls eventually out for 114 excellent runs. Keeping Jnr and James then
added 21 and 13 respectively both reminding the captain of their ability
to drive on the up through extra cover with ease. At tea 218 was
competitive at least having been 119 for 7 in the 34th over Hallum and
Keeping then sharing a notable 8th wicket stand of 78 in 7 overs!

Crawleys reply got off to a stuttering start Keeping snr removing both
openers cheaply, and at 18 for 2 we thought we might be in with a shout.
Howe and Bryce took the score on to 65 when Keeping Jnr had Howe caught
behind as he looked for another booming aerial drive that his innings had
become famed for, before drinks also bought the wicket of Bryce, done with
the flight and guille of Brock. This however was the last bright spot of
the afternoon as Stuart Phillipson and Max Walker proceeded to amass runs with increasing ease, aided by poor Olney outfielding (Smail once again excluded as he certainly showed his peers how it should be done). With 4 overs left Crawley reached their target.

Plus points and congratulations come in the form of Hallums century, aside
from that continued dissapointment as we continue to try and avoid
relegation. 2 games left and we have to be looking at a minimum 50 points
to try and avoid the drop!
