Match report
On a day when other clubs wouldn't have entertained playing a cricket match after a spot of rain North Bucks Ambulance gave the go-ahead and were rewarded for it.
Olney won the toss and to much applause put NBA into bat - with an uncharacteristic faultless fielding display catch after catch was held off of the returning Sam James as NBA crumbled to 29-4.
However Lemon (Joe) Rice broke the chain dropping a dolly and Bernie Gallyot thought it best to sidestep a rather rapid but equally down the throat effort preferring it to go for 4 - however Olney stayed on the case with 2 wickets in successive balls to keep NBA at 60-6. Surely victory ensued ?
A tail end action on a difficult pitch catapulted NBA to 149 all out. A good target on the pitch on what was also the biggest boundary anyone had ever seen - in fact we couldn't place a youth on the boundary incase he was abducted !
The Olney innings started with armed police arriving to remove the NBA opening bowler so they were down to 10 !
The opening pair of Gallyot and Oakley snoozed into the task as Olney raced away to 12 off of 8 overs !! 'We Want Badger' could be heard from the cheap seats. From that point Olney were always struggling on a ground where a cannon would have struggled to get the ball to the boundary.
Annie Oakley departed for a well worked 1 bringing Jake Mynard to the crease to take the score onto 52-1 looking good but with overs slipping away rapidly.
Jake (22) and Bernie (30) then departed both caught in quick succession but bringing the free scoring Paul Winter to the crease to bring home the bacon. Paul was out for 0 !!! to be replaced by Jason Wright who was out for 0 !!. Fossil being replaced by Skip Simon Gratland. The skippers first duty was to instruct Jason not to do anything daft and we were home - Jason departed next ball middle stump !
The determined Gray Macdonald came to the crease who along with the skip stuck on 65 but time was running out fast. The gallant rearguard action had the crowd getting interested before Gratland (26) and Macdonald (33) departed in the direction of the Oxygen tent !! Olney fell short by just 18 runs!
A good hard game of cricket - well done to NBA for putting it on.
Footnote - an excellent tea, even better that we didn't pay anything for it !! Cheques in the post Dan !
