Olney Town Cricket Club Sunday Casuals/League v Stony Stratford on Sun 13 Jul 2008 at 2pm
Olney Town Cricket Club Won by 1 wkt

Match report By the skin of their teeth the Casuals kept up their assault on the Sunday League title. A fine performance in the bowling department by Gratlands pups and a vintage performance from the effervescent chairmen Harrison (courtesy of Michelle) saved Olney from snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Mr Oliver Knowles set up the day when ripping through the Stony Stratford top order by snaffling up the first 4 wkts of the day with some accurate bowling finishing with fine figures of 10-4-22-4, ably assisted by Lemon Rice who moved into pole position for the Sunday League bowling award with another couple of victims.

Mr Gray Macdonald was bought back on after a barron but tidy opening spell to efficiently mop up the tail end with another 3 wicket haul and the job appeared to be done with SS out for just 125. Hammerlord returned to the fold with another tightish 9 overs but was badly let down by the buffoons behind the stumps who watched 3 edges sail past. Ended sadly with another blank but a good prospect for the future !

Ahhh but things are never that simple - Mr Oakley sadly recorded another duck and enters counselling Monday morning - decimal points have now been introduced onto the website to work out his average. Fellow opener Jon Hurley was unlucky to be bowled by probably the best ball of the day. Though with the help of Chairman Harrison the score was by this time onto 34-2 and cruising with the Pavilion natives at one with the world.

Out to the crease came run machine Winter who looked with Harrison to be taking the side home only to fall for 25 and suddenly the crowd were silenced as they saw who was left ! But on 81-2 and only needing another 45 from the last 8 wickets off of a lot of overs wheres the problem ? Well .......

The following SEVEN batsmen proceeded to contribute TWO runs, however with some generous extras, the 2 proved vital - oh and Harrison's 63no which out of a batted total of 99 probably deserves a mention. 63 expertly plundered runs making great use of the single with Lord at the other end though the 4 batsmen he ran out getting to his total could only offer muted applause at the end.

Skipper Gratland was given Run Out even though he was half way to Oxford before the bales came off and was confirmed as comfortably in by the cameras. In an uncharacteristic display of petulence the skipper then questioned the sobriety of the umpire quite vocally before storming off to the pavilion only pausing on the way to launch his helmet into the air and clattering it over the boundary for a well executed 4. Much guffawing followed with season ticket holder 'Pidge' commenting on it being the only thing that the skip had managed to middle all day ! A fair assessment.Humble apologies were offered once normal blood levels had been restored,

All in all another good bunch of lads from Stony.

So a nerve shredding episode but a win nonetheless and a decent 16 points. The scene is set for Wolverton !!
