Emberton v Olney Town Cricket Club Sunday Casuals/League on Sun 21 Sep 2008 at 1:30pm
Olney Town Cricket Club Won by 21 runs
Match report
Olney Casuals continued their fine run with by completing the double over rivals Emberton. In a game of two pitches - outfield jungle, strip excellent - the skips proceeded to both get theior own way as Ian Gillam won the toss and inserted the Casuals into bat. With Gratland gambling on a strong batting side at the expense of some bowling this suited both sides.
On a cracking day Emberton so nearly made the perfect start when Matt Goss was dropped firing straight at point and then went on to make 81. The seasons success story wade in with 22 to cap a season off with 547 runs in total to top the clubs batting totals.
John Megeary edging back into the fold wade in with a sprightly 31 incl a couple of 6's and capped his game off with 2 marvellous catches. "Salmon" rang out from the cheap seats. Mullet came back from the expensive ones !
Sam Howe scored 7 with a 14stone bat before being beaten by the speed of the Emberton wickie.
Paul Winter scored another 23 to finish another great season for him finishing as the top Sunday run getter just shy of 300 runs from 9 games.
A couple of fossils Panter and Gallyot finished the job with the final 20 and the Casuals had posted 208.
After a fine tea (ta Mrs Gillam) - Emberton came out and whilst always there or there abouts with the run rate never managed to accelerate to get their noses in front. The usual tight bowling from Gray Macdonald applying the early pressure. A couple of wickets each for Jon Hurley,Sam Howe,Dave Hurley and Simon Gratland completed the job though a worrying 56 !! extras conceded !! Ian Gillam top scoring for Emberton with 30.
Only down side was the scurrilous attempts to extract 3 lots of tea money out of the Casuals skipper !!
In a fine run of form Tanya Megeary added to her seasons gaffes when driving John Megeary to the ground and a matter of yards from the entrance was heard to utter "Who are you playing today then" !!
A good day
