Stoke Bruerne v Olney Town Cricket Club Sunday Casuals/League on Sun 03 May 2009 at 2pm
Olney Town Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets

Match report PHEW !!!! Talk about making it tough for yourself. Stoke Bruerne won the toss and elected to bat. From the off the resident openers Macdonald and Rice bowled tidily to keep the batsmen pinned in. As usual they kept it up throughout their spells finishing on smart figures.

Another wee bowling treasure in James Hurley was unearthed who bowled his socks off finishing on 5-0-11-2 against batsmen trying to break lose (technically better than his pop)! though pop Hurley also bowling very cheaply finishing on 10-3-17-3.
Fellow newbie Ben Brown also bowling tidily again. Gratters removed the stubborn second opener from the game but quickly removed himself from the attack as the batsmen started to open up !

So Stoke Bruerne finishing on 118-8 off of 40 overs so surely a winning chase was a formality on a pretty good strip.....oh no !

With Annie Oakleys ears ringing with instructions not to get out he played a model innings carrying his bat from start to finish finishing on 33 no from FORTY overs The 2 opening SB bowlers 20 overs going for just 26 runs !
But despite howls from the cheap seats about money back it was just what OTCC wanted but ran it dangerously close to the wire with Olney somehow managing to be left with a run rate of nearly 5 required from the last 9 overs as they 'amassed' just 70 from 31 overs!

Dave Hurley had steadily partnered Annie until running himself out for the second time in a weekend (well pleased). Ever reliable Labrador Winter came in and pushed the runs along until giving his wicket away driving a full ball in frustration only to see the middle stump get bothered !

With Annie plodding along resolutely refusing to be pressured by the now frantically pacing skipper on the boundary, Gray Macdonald was sent out by a now aghast skipper with orders to get on with it. A quick 17 from GM (doubling the boundary count for the rest of the side)got Olney back on track but the overs were still dangerously running out (as was the loo paper) and squeaking bottoms could be heard around the ground mainly from Gratlands direction!.

Scott Wrighting then came to the crease and soon smacked a couple of boundaries the second one to win the game with 14 balls to spare - along with a near faultless wicketkeeping display over both days, negotiations have begun over a new contract !

Olney getting home with 7 wickets to spare ....just !

Game played in great spirit - as the opposing skipper reminisced about his finest game at Olney played some 20 years ago - a game chiefly remembered for someones 'toilet break' which had the chicken shed evacuated in seconds and uninhabitable for the rest of the match !!
