Shenley Church End v Olney Town Cricket Club Sunday Casuals/League on Sun 02 Aug 2009 at 2pm
Olney Town Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets

Match report Ecky Thump - the assault on the Division 2 title came very close to grief against the side rock bottom without a win to their name. Losing the toss again OTCC were put into field and SCE made a steady start with 2 comfortable looking batsmen against the opening strikeforce of Swingler and Macdonald. However once the partnership was broken Shenley slipped from 31-0 to 39-6 as the entire middle order failed to score.

Seemingly cruising Olney were guilty of taking their foot off the gas with the SCE No 8 helping himself to 60 ably assisted by the No 7 weighing in with 35 for a 100 run 7th wicket stand.

Skipper Gratters bought himself on having managed to slow up run chases previously however this severly backfired as 2 overs were clouted for er ...er....er.....22 !!! (Though the partnership was borken up by a wicket)

Gray bowled economically again but the wickets again elluded him. Callum Berrill and Knowles helped themselves to a couple of wickets each. Brad picking up the other 3 and now leads the chase for the Sunday bowling honours.

Shenley finishing on 152-9 - a huge chance of a skitttling had been lost but with a strong batting line-up there weren't too many nerves...BUT......

Out to bat and Olney prodigee Callum (average 194!) played down the wrong line and was back in the pavilion for 2, Run machine Paul Winter came to the crease and was smartly out faffing around outside the off stump, edged to slip and was back in the hut for 1, Dave Berrill coming out of retirement with a humoungus track record behind him played on for another....1 and Olney were 14-3 !!!

The skipper, umpiring, slumped into a desperate depression as the seasons work unravelled at breakneck speed. BUT (another but) Opening with Callum was wee Jon Hurley who had other ideas - ably assisted by extreme threats by the skipper JH went on to plunder a career best 72no to rescue OTCC from the **** !
A useful role from Baz including the obligatory 6 to make 17, complimented by the now familiar 18no from 4,382 overs from Annie Oakley (which was just what the team wanted). Olney finishing on 155-4 to win by 6 wickets and set themselves up for a humdinger at Wicken next Sunday - victory will mean silverware for OTCC - we just need a cabinet to put it in !!

Meanwhile off the field Scotty Dog was fast becoming a cuddle tart hugging everyone whether they deserved it or not, Callum Berrill developed a strange fondness for the scoreboard and banished anyone touching it (rewarded with a prawn crisp every time he changed it!), and was last seen trying to get it through his bedroom door.
