Match report
In a flippin amazing game - 450 runs were scored with the game ending in a nail-biting draw !!
In flippin 'orrible weather Olney took to the field and were soon under the cosh with the Grendon skip fancying the Olney attack going on to amass 118 out of a total of 225 helped by some er 'indifferent' bowling from the home side. Tony Jewson the pick of the 3 pronged Jewson clan with 3 overs for um....31 !!!
Not expecting to reach the target OT trudged out and were soon up to 57 off of the first dozen overs before Smailey dollied one to short mid on (muppet!). Labrador Winter bedded in reaching 51 before a lack of concentration saw his stumps removed (I've also just realised that there was no jug from the man !!) but a welcome return to form.
The Panter dragged from retirement kicking and screaming put on a credible 30 and Olney were coming up on the inside rail.
With Olney suddenly in the game the Grendon skip having a very good game all round trebled his run up, switched from spin to pace and was comprehensively despatched for 3 boundaries in his first pace over by Barrass and bit part player Gratters - the 2 veterans stand of 54 in 6 overs and Olney were starting to look favourites (editorial license prevents me from specifying the individual contributions !!)
Mad Dog Barrass fresh from an innings long sulk in the field hit a swashbuckling 73 before being bowled at a crucial moment with just 4 overs remaining with the winning line in sight.
With Jason Wright unable to trouble the scorers probably due to not knowing which cricket ball he was seeing was the real one! it was left to unlikely batting hero Lemon/Basmati/Condom Rice to venture to the arena to crack a 4 meaning Olney needed 3 from the final ball to win.
With the pavilion on a knife edge and the clanging sound of someone dropping a pin in Row ZZ - the Rice despatched the ball to mid-on and scampered as fast as his nearly formed legs would carry him, with guest player Kevin Brown the other end, for 2 and an amazing game ended in a draw !!!
Ecky Thump !!
