Milton Bryan v Olney Town Cricket Club Sunday Casuals/League on Sun 13 Sep 2009 at 1pm
Olney Town Cricket Club Won by 107 runs

Match report On a day where the weather would play havoc with the Olney sides ageing bones, the Casuals took on Milton Bryan on their own turf. With a very good looking batting strip, skipper Gratters had no hesitration in batting once the toss had been won.
This proved a winner as a flamboyant 109 from Callum Berrill and a yes,no,wait, yes, come one, yes,no career best 47 from Jack Jewson saw Olney scarper to 134-0 off the first 20 overs before Jewson gave a soft catch from the last ball before drinks.
So after a marvellous start to the innings, 400 run (so far) Mike Brown came to the crease and with Olney confident of a world beating score, dreams were shattered as the Brown snr dollied up a catch to mid-on that Aunt Sally would have snaffled and was back in the hut for a duck, a duck that not only was to spawn a day of bitter and twisted umpire decisions from the duckee but was to lead to undignified hilarity on the sidelines from son brown jnr !

The demise of Brown bought born again Dave Berrill to the crease who knocked off a smart 35 during which time the still seething Brown snr now contributing via the Umpire coat, fingered Berrill jnr off a spinner having taken an enormous stride down the wicket !! Plum I think not but whats a man to do when your main rival for the batting award is scoring like a thing possessed !

Annie Oakley ventured to the middle a little lighter in the tooth dept and despatched a thought provoking 34 incl a fine sand wedged 6 over mid wicket before the tail got to grips with the game.

Skipper Gratters hit a stylish boundary (as they all are), before defying science by dragging a ball back onto his stumps from so wide that Gully was already shaping up to take it !!

The Lord playing another 'final' game came and played for his average holding the crease for 2.5 days for an unbeaten 1. An unstylish knock from keeper Smail for 5 with Macdonald contributing the same amount followed by a boundary from Brown jnr which had researchers scurrying through the record books to see if it had been done before and the Olney boys had put on an impressive 268-9

A fine tea was consumed and the popular 4 over and you're off bowling policy swung into action. Brad Swingler (fresh from fielding for the opposition a bit too keenly for my liking) bowled tidily and in taking 2 wickets surely has sealed up the bowling award for this year. This was ably supported by fellow opener Brown jnr who came from one behind in the seasons wickets behind his Pa to one in front with a double*. The race was on !

Next pair to bowl were indeed the aforementioned Brown snr and with Brown jnr willing every ball into being launched into Reading, his world crumbled as the skipper took a sharp one in the slips to bring the Brown family wicket count level. A cry of "Nooooooooooooooo" went up from Brown jnr as the catch was trousered ! Gray Macdonald then heaped shame on the Olney attack by bowling in a sort of gay wet-tshirt type number! (The fine commitee will meet today to discuss the issue!)

The Lord then put in the tidiest spell of the innings, again benefitting from a potential face rearranging sharp one in the slips by the skip ! (Who writes this stuff ?)

Jewson completed a memorable day by cleaning up with a double, one of which was a skied rocket which the Lord not only got under but held onto it AND called for it (everyone sharply checked their lottery numbers) and a notable wicket for Annie Oakley who managed to get through his entire 2 over spell without a no-ball.

Milton Bryan finally dismissed for 161 (we think) and a 107 run victory for North Bucks finest!!

Highlights of the day ranged from Christian Smail managing to not see a pint of lemonade coming through the air before landing all about his head, Brown jnr being outed as having been knocked out by a girl, Gratters wandering across the Milton Bryan pitch naked only spared his blushes by a now detached shower curtain as some soon to be dead erbert had nicked his towel from the OUTSIDE showers, the Lord actually calling for a catch from 30 feet up AND trousering it and the unedifying sight of a grown man out for a duck who then takes it out on his colleagues!

* FOOTNOTE:- The Brown bowling award was won by Brown snr on goal difference ! Brown jnr has hung up his boots !
